Coolum Kite Festival

October 7th 2006 sees the return of the OFF THE LIP kitesurf classic. This will be the second consecutive year this 15km downwind race has been held on the

Sunshine Coast and many riders from around the region are already singing up to try and take the title back off Mike Walker, last years winner.

Despite light winds last year, over 60 competitors showed up to take part in the inaugural race. The attitudes and atmosphere at the Kite Festival are what has made it a success every one of the last 5 years. This year all entrants will be treated to BBQ on the day + get a special edition KSA t-shirt designed for the event. Beyond the kitesurfing, the Coolum Kite Festival is one of the nations premier kite events. Everyone can look forward to more live music, fireworks, skydiving, food, and some of the biggest and most elaborate kites in the world.

The Energex helicopter will be back along with the coast guard and even more jet-ski's lending their support and providing excellent opportunities for the media to showcase this event. The format will be the same as last year with 60 kiters transported to a pre-determined start 15km upwind. The emphasis again is on fun,

safety and getting a chance to ride with 60 mates. This event is a truly unique opportunity for kitesurfing to not only showcase itself in a spectacular format to over 30,000 people, but to also work alongside councils, SLSC's and the public to build a positive future for the sport.

A prize pool worth over $5000 is up for grabs + some fun prizes that will be revealed on the day... including a 'best dressed' prize going to the most outrageous outfit worn in the race.

Space is strictly limited to 60 competitors and you must PRE-REGISTER before SEPT 29. No registrations will be done on the day.

ENTRY FEE: $25
