Kitestock Port Gregory WA
Last weekend saw the first Kitestock weekend event in WA, way up north at Port Gregory to be precise. And according to Paul Wrights wrap up below it was the place to be:
PW> Well, what agreat weekend. Got to Gregory Friday night @ 7.30. Ran in to some mates from Sharkbay/Exmouth and Lancelin. They said Friday was impressive with 50-60 riders out and 20-25 kts(and we think 8 riders at home is busy) Sat morn took the the kids up around the point for a few hours to surf tidy a little 2 ft peak ,35 degrees with about 4 other guys out (another day n paradise). Sat arvo wind kicked around 1pm 15kts and proceeded to fluctuate between 15-18 till about 4-30 till it backed off. No comp run as such but just a 1km stretch jam packed with kite n quip with 40 riders out most of the arvo. Everyone just demo'ing other camps gear and just having a phat time meeting and watching other riders from all over the state with all egos left at home. Nathan Johnson from Wipika and myself gave a few guys rides on the new Matrix, everyone seemed impressed with the gear. As the forecast for Sun wasn't flash Sat night was a blinder with the Woodstock party goin to midnight and carrying on back at various camps till anyone's guess. Woke up Sun morn with a smile as I was feeling relatively unscathed, nothin that a handfull of panadol didn't fix anyway. So once again loaded up the boards and this time we headed North about 10 mile ,scored some really nice waves and found a couple of potential A1 wave setups to kite after lunch, unfortunately the wind tried to muster up enough strength but ran out of puff (big nite as well). So it was back to Gregory to let the kids loose on the little "A frame" whilst we grovelled on our kites and surfboards until we finally succumbed to the call of cold beer back at the caravan park. All in all a great weekend with such a laid back feel, can"t wait to get up there in a week or so and have it to ourselves again. Paul. The following note is from the Kitestock organisers, well done guys we love your work. Dear KITESTOCKER, After all the planning and anticipation, KITESTOCK was one of the largest gathering of kiters in Australia. Around 120 kiters attended the event during the weekend which surpassed all our expectations, so we thank you all for your support. At times we had over 80 kiters out on the water at once, a truly awe-inspiring sight to see, and with all the demo kit available there were plenty of people who never unpacked any of their own gear all weekend! A big thank you must go out to all our sponsors for their kind support and generous prizes. Please take your time to thank them by visiting their websites or dropping them an email to show your appreciation for the efforts they went to to help make KITESTOCK a huge success. They are (in no particular order) WAKSA, AKSA, Airborne, Airush, Choice Kitesurfing, Best Kiteboarding, GOPC, Filtrate Eyewear, North Kites, Cabrinha, Kite Addiction, Wipika, Slingshot, Seabreeze, FA, Monkey Kites. downloadsvclp0002.mp4 Kitestock Video
