WHO IS TRAQUA? Traqua have been operating for 4 years, are the biggest website for kiteboarding in Australia and is highly regarded as one of the best schools in the country.

TRAQUA KITEBOARDING SCHOOL is an approved kiteboarding centre with the IKO (International Kiteboarding Organisation) and provides valuable advice, unbeatable expertise and support, to kiteboarding beginners, intermediate and advanced riders and well as the general community.

TRAQUA TEAM are all trained by the 2003 (KPWT) World Women's Champion, Rebecca Nicholson. All instructors are certified with the IKO, have a wealth of experience, and are dedicated and enthusiastic about teaching you how to kiteboard. Our team of totally dedicated team can be found in Port Douglas, Mission Beach, Whitsunday's, Noosa, Sunshine Coast and now Adelaide. TRAQUA SCHOOL AND TEAM QUALIFICATIONS Traqua instructor's and school qualifications are with International Kiteboarding Organisation (IKO) ikorg.com , which are approved by Australian Kitesurfing Association (AKSA) aksa.com.au. All instructors have their first aid qualifications, boat licenses and child suitability cards. You are dealing with the most professional, experienced, dedicated and qualified school in the country, and the only school in the country to be trained by a World Champion! You won't find this anywhere else!

Time - Our experienced team of instructors know all the tips to reduce your learning time and get you moving quickly yet safely. Teaching yourself may not only frustrate you, it may put yourself and or others at risk.
Money - Time and money are important - imagine trying to teach yourself and in the first 5 minutes and destroying your new equipment or worse ending up in hospital! Our team welcome you to trash their equipment before your own - only joking!
Safety - Would you buy a hang glider from a shop then venture off to your nearest mountain and jump off? Probably not - and although Kiteboarding doesn't seem dangerous it has potential hazards. Safety techniques are best learnt from qualified instructors.
Equipment - selection is vast and often bewildering. After a lesson your Traqua instructor offer's the best advice on what gear is best suited for you according to your weight, your ability, location (or conditions you plan to kite in regularly) and of course the best value for money.

ALL ABOUT TRAQUA KITEBOARDING LESSONS

LESSON TIMES

- The Traqua Instructors are available 7 days a week - weather permitting
- Lesson times are mostly between 10am and 5pm but can vary according to season

LESSON LOCATION

- Traqua Kiteboarding operates at a variety of locations and according to season
- Traqua will move according to wind direction, strength and weather conditions
- Each participant will be informed of the location and most appropriate lesson time after on the morning of the lesson

LESSONS FOCUS

Traqua lesson guidelines are below but briefly our aim is to solidly prepare you for Kiteboarding on your own and will focus on equipment selection, wind/weather analysis, kite flying, body dragging and hopefully board skills (weather and skill level permitting). If you are at an intermediate level our team of instructors are professionally trained to guide you in the right direction so you can reach your next step quickly yet safely.

LESSON NUMBERS AND HOURS

The Traqua Instructors teach a maximum four people per at any one time, so you'll get the attention you deserve. We limit each participant to 4 hours per day so fatigue doesn't get the better of you.

LESSON BOOKINGS

All Bookings are welcome and can be made via this site at  our secure booking form.  Please remember you must supply a preferred and alternate date in case the weather is not in our favour!

Please note: any information you provide is used to obtain a clear understanding your needs as well as guides us with amount and variation of equipment required, emergency contact numbers and medical history are very important.

PAYMENT

- Full payment must be received before the lesson begins.
- A Receipt will be issued and you must bring bring it with you to the lesson.

TRAQUA PROVIDES

all the kiteboarding equipment including kites, bars, harnesses, boards, helmets and life vests.
It's very important to let us know your weight so we can select the appropriate equipment for you and the weather conditions during your lesson.

WHAT YOU CAN BRING

A guideline only!
- Water based sun cream
- A hat
- Sunglasses - you may lose them so don't bring an expensive pair!
- Water wear such as rashie, board shorts and or wetsuit
- A Towel
- Drinking water
- Something to nibble on - to keep energy/sugar levels up
- Footwear for use in and out of the water but only if you are worried about standing on something foreign
- Lastly a willingness to learn, but most importantly a smile!

TRAQUA KITEBOARDING BASIC COURSE OUTLINE

All Traqua Instructors use the IKO - International Kiteboarding Organisation certification standards designed to: validate the levels of students, allow instructors to know exactly what the student has learnt and from what point to take up their training. At the end of their lesson each student will be presented with a card signifying their Internationally recognised level.

IKO DISCOVERY PROGRAM Stages A to E. Completion of all stages = Level 1
IKO INTERMEDIATE PROGRAM Stages F to I. Completion of all stages = Level 2
IKO INDEPENDENT PROGRAM Stages J to N. Completion of all stages = Level 3

IKO DISCOVERY PROGRAM - Stages A to E

This is a guideline only!
- Introduction, signing indemnity forms, and briefing of emergency procedures.
- Wind and weather analysis - very important as this sport relies on it!
- Site Selection, obstacles, and local regulations.
- Equipment orientation and familiarisation.
- Kite skills, piloting, assisted launching and landing.
- Kite positioning, practical.
- Essential Safety procedures.
- Kite positioning theory.
- Certification, feedback and questions answered.

IKO INTERMEDIATE PROGRAM - Stages F to I

This is a guideline only!
- All of the Discovery Program and:  

- Kite skills, piloting in harness, with one hand.
- Kite skills to generate controlled power.
- Perform a downwind course by body dragging.
- Relaunch a kite from the water.
 - Board theory.

IKO INDEPENDENT PROGRAM - Stages J to N

This is a guideline only!
- All of the Discovery Program, Intermediate Program and:  
- Unassisted weather and site analysis, kite selection, launching and landing alone.
- Perform a self-rescue.
- Water and right of way rules.
- Perform a controlled crosswind course body drag then a crosswind body drag with one hand.
- Water start theory: board and body positioning, kite piloting.
- Board practical.
- Adjustment of power systems on four line kites.
- Board theory (practical if wind and ability is suitable) including edging, upwind technique, turning, jumping and basic tricks.

It impossible to tell you how long it will take to be a competent kiteboarder as your progression and ability will differ from others. However, the Traqua Instructors will provide you with the understanding and attention you deserve and just remember half the fun is getting there!
