Kiteboarding FAQs
Whether you've seen it, heard about it, thinking about having a go or are booking in for a Kiteboarding lesson! Here are some details that will point you in the right direction and help you become involved in the fastest growing water sport in the world!
Who can learn to kiteboard? Anyone who is willing to give it a go! Over the last 4 years Traqua instructors have taught men, women, teenagers and children between the ages of 6 and 66. Fitness requirements? A basic level of fitness and a swimming ability is required (it is a water sport!). The Kiteboarding gear can be matched to the wind conditions, your weight and ability. Is Kiteboarding Easy? Yes it can be if you have qualified instruction to guide you through the basics and fast pace your learning curve. No, if you learn on your own without lessons. Does it take a lot of strength? No - you will soon learn from the Traqua instructors that it's not about strength, it's technique! Do you have to have other skills? Previous sporting ability may help but not essential. Actually, kite flying skills is the first thing you will need to learn - so if you have experience with this you're almost half way there! The kite represents the biggest part of the sport - without learning this first or without displaying smooth control of the kite you wont get anywhere on a board. How long will it take to learn? Learning times greatly depend on weather conditions; equipment used, ability levels and practice. Almost everyone has unreal expectations of what they will achieve in just one or two lessons. Although kiteboarding is a relatively fast sport to learn, you need to have a realistic approach and try not to put too much pressure on yourself and you will achieve great results and have a fantastic time getting there! How much will the gear cost? A complete Kiteboarding package including kite, bar, lines, harness and board can cost anywhere between say $1500 and $3500. We do not recommend equipment sold in the paper or internet! Where do I start? Have a Traqua lesson! This will help you decide if your keen to continue the sport and our instructors can advise you about the best gear for you. | |||
